History

60 years leading the defence industry

TEREM-HOLDING EAD is the successor of the "Military Repair Bases and Plants" Directorate, created on 1 October 1965. Over six decades the organisation has passed through several transformations — the "Military Industry" Directorate (1989), TEREM EAD (1998) and TEREM-HOLDING EAD (2017) — evolving from a centralised military repair directorate into a modern industrial holding.

The company is 100% state-owned, with the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Bulgaria as its principal. It unites five specialised enterprises located in Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo, Targovishte, Kostenets and Varna — covering the full spectrum of defence equipment repair, production and modernisation.

1965

On 1 October 1965, Council of Ministers Decision No. 528 announces the creation of the "Military Repair Bases and Plants" Directorate; on 9 October it is formally established by Order No. 00333 of the Minister of Defence, Army General Dobri Dzhurov. A single technical and production base is created — a turning point for the Bulgarian defence industry and for sustaining the combat readiness of the armed forces.

1989

The organisation is restructured for a market economy while remaining part of the Ministry of Defence — under the name "Military Industry" Directorate.

1998

By Council of Ministers Ordinance No. 18 of 17 April 1998, the "Military Industry" Directorate becomes a sole-owner joint-stock company, 100% state-owned — TEREM EAD — comprising 13 branches across the country engaged in the repair of armaments and equipment.

2000

The start of a series of reorganisations. By Order No. 537 of 1 August 2000 of the Minister of Defence, the branches in Dobrich, Vratsa, Razgrad and Sofia are spun off into standalone state-owned companies; in 2004 the remaining branches become wholly-owned subsidiaries of TEREM EAD. The company expands its commercial activity on domestic and international markets while remaining a trusted partner of the Bulgarian Armed Forces.

2017

On 5 December 2017, TEREM EAD is entered in the Commercial Register as a holding structure — TEREM-HOLDING EAD — with six subsidiaries: TEREM-KRZ Flotski Arsenal-Varna EOOD, TEREM-Ivaylo EOOD, TEREM-Tsar Samuil EOOD, TEREM-Letets EOOD, TEREM-Han Krum EOOD and TEREM-Ovech EOOD.

2019

TEREM-Ovech EOOD is merged into TEREM-Han Krum EOOD, leaving the holding with five subsidiaries.

Today

An active partner of the Bulgarian Armed Forces and NATO allies. Certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. Over 60 years of continuous operation, with an active defence-innovation policy focused on unmanned aerial systems.
